American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner completed their report to US President Donald Trump following their meeting with Vladimir Putin. The discussion in the Kremlin, which lasted nearly five hours, was deemed productive, albeit without any concrete compromises.
According to Axios, Whitkoff, Trump's special envoy, and Kushner, the president's son-in-law, detailed the contents of their conversation, which took place Tuesday evening. On the Russian side, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, participated in the talks. Footage from the beginning of the meeting, released by the Kremlin, shows an exchange of greetings: Putin expressed delight at the guests' arrival and asked about their tour of Moscow, to which Whitkoff replied that the city had left a "magnificent impression."
Ushakov previously noted that the two sides had exchanged proposals for a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, but disagreements remained on key issues such as territory. Trump, for his part, reiterated his optimism about the dialogue, stating that the US was "trying to end the crisis."
