Hamas has freed three Israeli hostages - Romi Gonen, Emily Demaree and Doron Steinbrecher. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesperson, the girls crossed the border accompanied by soldiers and representatives of the General Security Service (Shabak). The freed women were sent to the south of the country for an initial medical examination.
"Some time ago, accompanied by IDF and Shin Bet forces, the freed hostages crossed the border and found themselves in Israeli territory. They are now heading to the initial meeting point in southern Israel, where they will undergo an initial medical examination," — the IDF said in an official statement.
The release was part of ongoing negotiations between the Israeli side and Hamas, which are being mediated by international organizations and third countries.
The release of the hostages has sparked widespread public outcry in Israel. The girls' families have expressed gratitude to the government, the army and everyone involved in their return. But many in Israel are asking questions about the long-term implications of such deals, which critics say could encourage Hamas to take more hostages.
