Turkey may abandon the Russian S-400, but only on favorable terms for Ankara.
Ankara does not exclude the possibility of abandoning the further use of the Russian S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems in the event of a favorable offer from the United States or its allies in the North Atlantic Alliance. To date, such proposals from Washington and NATO member countries have not been received, although there have been reports that Ankara intends to sell the S-400 air defense systems purchased earlier from Russia in exchange for a loan of about $ 10 billion.
The intensification of the dialogue between Ankara and Washington indicates that Turkey is ready to make certain concessions, however, it obviously intends to receive other American weapons in exchange for the S-400 - it seems to be about the Patriot complexes inferior to "Triumphs", as well as fighters F-35.
“The United States has even imposed sanctions against Turkey, but did not offer anything in return, nothing concrete. But [Erdogan] is a realistic and pragmatic politician.- said In an interview with RIA Novosti, Ivan Timofeev, Program Director of the Russian Council on International Affairs.
At the same time, Ankara did not officially announce the introduction of Russian S-400 systems into service, obviously intending to avoid the introduction of very serious sanctions from the United States.
Of course, it will wait for a CHEAPER offer and will try to bring down the price of Russian complexes.
