The leader of the Turkish National Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, called for the immediate conclusion of the Jerusalem Pact against Israel. The call was supported by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is Bahçeli's coalition partner. According to Erdogan, the pact should be signed by Türkiye, Iraq, Egypt and Syria.
The exclusion of Iran from this list clearly demonstrates the continuing mistrust between Ankara and Tehran. Bahçeli believes that countries in the region must resist Israel's "impudence" with all available means, including military ones.
In his statement, Bahçeli stressed that the Jerusalem Pact is necessary to protect Palestinian rights and ensure security in the region.
"We must unite and repel Israeli aggression. Only joint action will help us achieve peace and justice," - said the MHP leader.
Earlier, there were reports that Turkey was negotiating with Egypt on the issue of transferring Turkish military contingent to Gaza through Egyptian territory. This could be the first step towards the implementation of the plan to create the Jerusalem Pact and strengthen Turkey’s military-political influence in the region.
