According to information published by the Turkish newspaper Türkiye, Ankara is considering the possibility of establishing two military bases in Syria. These facilities are planned to house up to 50 F-16 fighters, which will strengthen Syria's defense capabilities until its own air force is fully restored.
Turkey and Syria are expected to sign a joint defense agreement, under which Ankara will pledge to support Damascus in the event of sudden threats. As part of this agreement, the Turkish military will train the Syrian army and its pilots, and will also provide drones, radars and electronic warfare systems to strengthen control on the border with Israel.
Turkish officials have not yet commented on the reports. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's administration said it had no information about plans to establish Turkish military bases in Syria.
In parallel, the Israeli army began building two new military bases in the Golan Heights buffer zone, having previously taken over a number of Syrian villages. Satellite images show more than six buildings and vehicles at one of the bases, as well as a similar facility eight kilometers to the south. Both bases are connected by new dirt roads to the rest of the Golan Heights, which Israel occupied in 1967.
