The Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced the successful interception of a low-flying unmanned aerial target by a HISAR-D RF missile launched from the frigate TCG Istanbul. The test took place in the Sea of Marmara.
"A missile with an active radar homing head hit a target at a range of more than 40 kilometers and an altitude of over 15 kilometers.", the department reported.
The HISAR-D RF is a naval variant of the HISAR-O RF system. The launch was carried out from the MIDLAS vertical launch system integrated into the I-class frigate. This marks the first use of the system from a surface ship.
Development has been underway at ROKETSAN since 2022. The missile is designed to defend against cruise missiles, drones, and aircraft at medium ranges. The HİSAR-D RF will eventually be part of the air defense system of all new frigates of the Turkish Navy.
