Türkiye has stated that it does not recognize Crimea's accession to Russia.

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in connection with the 12th anniversary of Crimea's transfer to Russian jurisdiction, which was celebrated on May 18, 2026. The republic's foreign policy agency once again confirmed its non-recognition of this step.

"On this 12th anniversary, we reaffirm that we do not recognize this factual situation, which is contrary to international law." — the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.

The statement also noted that Turkey continues to strongly support Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Ankara expressed its intention to continue closely monitoring developments on the peninsula, particularly the situation of Crimean Tatars, and to keep this issue on the agenda.

The Russian side has not yet commented on Turkey's statement.
