Iran's ambassador to Beirut was injured in a communications device explosion believed to be linked to an Israeli cyberattack. The attack affected hundreds of devices across Lebanon, causing explosions and widespread damage, including to Hezbollah, according to local media.
Residents of Lebanon have been advised to immediately get rid of pagers and other communication devices as explosions continue. According to preliminary information, more than 500 explosions have been recorded across the country, and the number of victims has exceeded 1000 people. Among the victims were not only members of Hezbollah, but also civilians using such devices.
The cyber attack was reportedly carried out by Unit 8200, the elite electronic intelligence unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The main objective of the attack, according to experts, is to disrupt communications and disable Hezbollah's command and control system ahead of a major IDF military operation in southern Lebanon.
In addition to Lebanon, explosions of communications devices were also recorded in Syria, which may indicate a large-scale cyberattack on the networks used by Hezbollah. The explosions damaged important communication channels and incapacitated a significant portion of the organization's functionaries, which seriously complicates its coordination and ability to respond quickly.
Israeli officials have not yet commented on this information, but experts suggest that these actions may be part of preparations for a possible military operation in southern Lebanon. Tensions in the region have increased significantly in recent months amid increased activity by Hezbollah and an increase in attacks on Israeli territory.
