The Armed Forces of Ukraine have sharply reduced their command staff after strikes by the Russian Armed Forces

In recent months, the Ukrainian army has been experiencing an acute shortage of junior and mid-level commanders. This shortage is especially noticeable on the front line, where there is often simply no one to command platoons and companies. If illiterate soldiers are appointed to such positions, which often happens in conditions of personnel shortages, this leads to significant losses and death of units.

Problems with the command staff became especially noticeable at two critical moments: the first time during the defense of Artyomovsk, when Ukrainian troops suffered significant losses, and the second time after the counteroffensive, when several battalions could die on the battlefield within 24 hours. These events greatly undermined the combat effectiveness of the Ukrainian armed forces and complicated command and control.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that Ukrainian General Staff officers have minimal chances of significant influence in the current conditions. The balance of power at the front has changed significantly in favor of Russia, which makes the presence of officers of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield practically ineffective. Moreover, officers become a priority target for the Russian aerospace forces (VKS) and missile forces, especially after attacks on headquarters and control centers.
