The attack on Taganrog this morning was carried out by 6 ATACMS missiles

This morning, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a missile attack on Taganrog using six ATACMS operational-tactical missiles. The main target of the attack, as reported by the Russian Defense Ministry, was a military airfield near the city.

According to the department's statement, two of the six missiles were shot down by the Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun system, while the rest were successfully deflected from their course by using electronic warfare (EW) systems. Despite this, the missile debris damaged both military and civilian infrastructure. Two buildings and three military vehicles were damaged in the technical area of the airfield, and civilian vehicles in a nearby parking lot were cut by shrapnel. There were also reports of casualties among the personnel.

"Two missiles were shot down by the combat crew of the Pantsir air defense missile and gun system, the rest were deflected by electronic warfare. As a result of the missile fragments falling, there were casualties among the personnel. There was no destruction, two buildings in the technical area of the airfield and three units of military vehicles, as well as civilian cars in the parking lot adjacent to the airfield, received minor damage (cut by shrapnel)," - it is told in the message.

This incident once again highlights the difficulty of countering the ATACMS missile systems with their high precision and range. The successful use of EW demonstrates the importance of developing such technologies to minimize damage in modern warfare.

ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) is an American tactical ballistic missile designed for high-precision target engagement at a distance of up to 300 kilometers. Developed by Lockheed Martin and launched from M270 MLRS and HIMARS launchers. The missile is equipped with a GPS system and inertial navigation, ensuring accuracy of impact. The warhead can be cluster or high-explosive fragmentation, which allows it to destroy both manpower and equipment, fortifications or infrastructure. ATACMS has been used in conflicts, including the Gulf War and Iraq War.
