Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev has warned of the serious consequences of a possible strike on the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). He said such an incident would lead to a nuclear catastrophe that would affect not only Russia, but also neighboring countries, including the European Union, Ukraine, Belarus, and Turkey. The statement came amid closed-door talks with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) CEO Rafael Grossi in Kaliningrad.
Likhachev stressed that an attack on nuclear facilities such as the Kursk NPP could cause large-scale destruction and radiation contamination that would spread over significant distances. He noted that the consequences of such a strike would be catastrophic for the entire region, causing long-term environmental and economic problems.
