On February 19, 2025, the Syzran Oil Refinery (OR) in the Samara Region was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The regional governor, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, reported that a fire had broken out on the territory of the enterprise, but according to preliminary data, there were no casualties. Operational and emergency services are working at the scene. A UAV attack threat was declared in the region from 02:15 to 07:05, during which residents were urged to be vigilant and recommended to call 112 in case of emergency.
"Dear residents of the Samara region. Tonight, the Kiev regime attacked the Syzran Oil Refinery. Operational and emergency services are working on the territory of the enterprise. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties."– Fedorishchev reports.
This is not the first attack on the Syzran Oil Refinery. On March 16, 2024, the plant was already hit by drones, which resulted in a fire at the oil refining unit.
Drone attacks on Russian oil refineries and fuel depots have increased in frequency in 2024. According to sources, at least 81 such attacks were recorded during this period.
Oil refineries in Krasnodar Krai were particularly frequently hit. The Tuapse Oil Refinery was the target of attacks several times.
Experts note that despite the significant number of attacks, their impact on the cost of gasoline in Russia was insignificant. However, some enterprises required lengthy repairs after the attacks, which affected their production capacity.
On the night of February 19, 2025, in addition to the attack on the Syzran Oil Refinery, drones also attempted to attack facilities in the North Caucasus. In connection with this, in a number of regions, including Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Ulyanovsk, Izhevsk and Kirov, the reception and departure of flights at local airports were temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of civil aircraft flights.
