On the night of March 13, 2025, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a large-scale drone attack on a number of Russian regions, forcing the authorities to tighten security measures and respond quickly to threats. According to data as of late evening, the strikes affected several regions of the country at once, causing fires and temporary restrictions on the operation of civil aviation. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that most of the attempts were successfully thwarted, but the consequences of the attacks were still recorded.
In three regions — Saratov, Kaluga and Volgograd regions — restrictions on airport operations have been introduced due to the drone threat. In Saratov, Kaluga and Volgograd, flights have been suspended to eliminate risks for passengers and infrastructure. The measures are temporary and will be lifted once the situation stabilizes. Against this background, residents of border and central regions report the sounds of explosions and air defense activity.
In the Voronezh Region, several drones were shot down by air defense systems, but one of them fell on an infrastructure facility. Governor Alexander Gusev confirmed that a fire broke out at the site of the strike, which emergency services are currently extinguishing. Information about victims or the scale of destruction has not yet been disclosed, but the authorities assured that they have the situation under control. In the Rostov Region, five drones were destroyed, one of which fell on the territory of an industrial facility in the village of Kalininsky in the Sholokhov District, causing a fire. According to local authorities, the fire was localized, and there were no casualties among the workers.
The Bryansk region was also attacked: five aircraft-type UAVs were shot down over the region.
Earlier, the Defense Ministry reported the destruction of 337 UAVs in 11 hours on March 1100, including six over the Voronezh Region, which was one of the largest attacks since the beginning of the conflict. According to the BBC, the target is not only border regions, but also objects deeper in the rear, including energy infrastructure. Experts attribute the increased activity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the weakening of their positions in the Kursk Region, where Russia has recaptured more than XNUMX square kilometers, as reported by the Russian General Staff.
