In the morning hours of December 10, the city of Taganrog in the Rostov region became the target of a missile attack. According to the source "Baza", the incident occurred at about 4:20 am, and it is preliminarily assumed that the strikes were carried out by American ATACMS ballistic missiles. However, at the moment there is no official confirmation of this information.
Acting Governor of Rostov Region Yuri Slyusar reported that one of the city's industrial enterprises was damaged as a result of the attack. Fourteen cars burned in the adjacent territory. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties among the population, but the scale of the destruction and the reasons for the attack are still being clarified.
Experts are considering several versions of what happened. According to analysts, if the attack was indeed carried out using ATACMS, this could indicate a new stage in the escalation of the conflict, despite the earlier strike by the Russian side using the Oreshnik ballistic missile. Ballistic missiles of this type have a high range and accuracy, which makes them a significant threat to strategically important objects.
ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) is an American tactical ballistic missile of the surface-to-surface class, developed by Lockheed Martin. It is designed to hit targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometers with high accuracy thanks to inertial navigation and GPS. It is launched from mobile M270 MLRS and HIMARS installations. It is equipped with a cluster or high-explosive fragmentation warhead to destroy manpower, equipment or fortified objects. It was used in the wars in the Persian Gulf and Iraq. Provides prompt precision strikes on critical objects, such as headquarters, warehouses and air defense systems.
