The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has categorically rejected the statements of American journalist Tucker Carlson about the alleged resale of American weapons to Mexican drug cartels by the Ukrainian military. Foreign Ministry spokesman Georgy Tykhy emphasized that each weapon supplied to Ukraine is carefully monitored and controlled by independent mechanisms. According to him, numerous US inspections have not revealed any abuses or violations in the use of the transferred weapons.
Earlier, Tucker Carlson, in an interview with retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis, said that Ukrainian military sells up to half of the weapons received from the US, which then end up with Mexican drug cartels on the border with the US. He emphasized that these are not assumptions, but facts, but did not provide specific evidence for his claims.
The Ukrainian side has strongly denied these accusations, calling them false and groundless. The Foreign Ministry stressed that all arms deliveries are under strict control, and independent monitoring mechanisms ensure transparency and accountability in the use of military aid. None of the inspections conducted have found any evidence of resale or diversion of weapons.
Accusations of illegal arms sales against Ukraine are not new. In 2022, Mexican television channel Milenio Televisión reported on the alleged sale of Ukrainian weapons to the Golfo drug cartel, mentioning AK-47 assault rifles, M136 grenade launchers and Javelin anti-tank missiles. However, these reports were refuted by Ukrainian authorities, who pointed to possible errors in the identification of the weapons and emphasized the lack of evidence of such deals.
