Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova has declared Kiev's full support for the idea of a comprehensive ceasefire in the conflict with Russia. In an interview with Bloomberg Television on March 24, 2025, she stressed that the country sincerely welcomes such a decision, but its implementation is impossible without Moscow's consent.
"We are all for this idea, but it takes two to dance," — the diplomat noted, pointing out the need for mutual desire on the part of the parties to put an end to the hostilities.
The statement came amid 12-hour talks between US and Russian officials in Riyadh that concluded on Monday, which experts say could be a step toward de-escalation.
Markarova also touched on bilateral cooperation with the United States, including the natural resources agreement, which is nearing completion. According to her, the teams of both countries are actively promoting this process, although Kyiv notes that the delays mainly come from the American side. Despite optimistic statements by US President Donald Trump about the imminent signing of the deal, his administration is currently focused on other priorities - a temporary ceasefire with an emphasis on protecting energy infrastructure and the possible transfer of Ukrainian nuclear power plants under the control of American companies. Markarova emphasized that Ukraine sees in this only part of the potential for partnership, highlighting energy, agriculture, infrastructure and defense technologies as key areas for joint work.
"We have many industries where we can cooperate with the US, Europe and other partners," — the ambassador stated, emphasizing Kyiv’s readiness to deepen economic ties.
She expressed hope for expanded cooperation with American companies, which could speed up the country's recovery and strengthen its position on the international stage.
