In preparation for the first full-scale rotation in three years, about 50 Ukrainian servicemen from various branches of the armed forces will be transferred to the Ground Forces. This is approximately 20% of the total number of military personnel on the front lines. The order for the transfer was signed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky on January 11, 2025.
According to a source in the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this measure is aimed at launching the rotation mechanism, which has not been fully operational in recent years.
"We need to do this to launch the rotation mechanism. The resources that are currently studying in training centers are only enough for the minimum replenishment of units, and not for the full provision of the combat component. And thanks to these movements between troops, as well as recruiting, we will be able to do this. There is already an approved rotation plan," — the publication’s source noted.
Previously, Western publications such as The Economist and the Financial Times reported complaints from Ukrainian military personnel about the lack of rotations and a shortage of personnel reserves, which led to fatigue among personnel and a decrease in the combat effectiveness of units.
