The publication claims that the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia (GRU GS RF) actively uses such methods, generously paying for information about important Ukrainian military facilities.

According to Forbes, up to $500 could have been paid for the data provided to the Russian side. This suggests that there may be inside sources within the Ukrainian forces willing to cooperate with Russian intelligence in exchange for large sums.
