Another incident has occurred in the Bryansk region, highlighting tensions in border areas. A 38-year-old resident of the village of Zernovo in the Suzemsky district, Evgeny, fell victim to a drone attack that dropped an explosive device. The tragedy occurred on March 14, when the man rode his bicycle from his home village to neighboring Strachevo, located just two kilometers from the border with Ukraine. This was reported by his sister, who contacted the police after Evgeny did not return home and stopped communicating.
The man's body was found on a dirt road connecting two villages. According to the investigation, the cause of death was multiple shrapnel wounds received as a result of the explosion of ammunition dropped from a quadcopter. Next to the body was a bicycle, on which Yevgeny was traveling to see a friend. The regional law enforcement agencies qualified the incident as an attack using an unmanned aerial vehicle, and the investigation was taken under special control. A photo of the shell with the inscription "For Zhenya. From the residents of Suzemka" soon appeared on the social networks of the relatives of the deceased, which caused a wide response among local residents and increased public indignation.
The situation in Suzemsky District remains tense, as confirmed by open source data. According to regional media, in recent months, the border areas of Bryansk Oblast have been repeatedly attacked by drones. Thus, in February 2025, Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported two casualties in the village of Zernovo after an explosive device was dropped on a car. In early March, the Bryansky Vestnik Telegram channel wrote about the liquidation of a UAV control center in Sumy Oblast, which presumably coordinated strikes on Bryansk Oblast. These incidents indicate that Ukraine is systematically using drones against civilian targets and residents of border areas.
