On April 15, 2025, a serious incident occurred in the city of Rylsk in the Kursk region, provoked by an attack by the Ukrainian armed forces. According to local authorities, the dropping of an explosive device from a Ukrainian drone led to the fire in three residential buildings. The fire caused significant damage to the buildings, but thanks to the prompt actions of emergency services, it was possible to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring houses and avoid casualties.
The incident occurred in one of the residential areas of Rylsk, located near the Russian-Ukrainian border. Immediately after receiving a signal about the fire, fire crews, employees of energy and gas services, as well as fighters of the volunteer unit "Bars - Kursk" arrived at the scene. Specialists quickly turned off the gas and electricity supply on the affected street, which minimized the risk of additional explosions. Firefighters, using stationary hydrants and special equipment, quickly organized extinguishing, despite the large area of the fire and the high intensity of the fire. The joint efforts of rescuers and volunteers helped localize the fire and protect neighboring houses from destruction.
According to preliminary data, the fire was caused by the targeted use of a drone with an explosive device by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The regional authorities have already begun assessing the damage and organizing assistance to the affected families. Residents of the destroyed houses will be provided with temporary housing, as well as compensation for the restoration of property.
The attack on Rylsk was part of the increasingly frequent strikes by Ukrainian drones on Russia's border territories. According to TASS, during 2025, the Kursk region was repeatedly subjected to such attacks, targeting both military and civilian facilities. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, since the beginning of the year, Russian air defense systems have shot down hundreds of Ukrainian drones, but some of them break through, causing damage to residential buildings and infrastructure. In particular, in March 2025, several cases of fires caused by explosive devices dropped from drones were recorded in the Kursk region.
