German armed forces combat readiness level drops to 50%

The combat readiness of the German armed forces currently does not exceed 50%, which is significantly lower than the level recorded in 2022, when hostilities began in Ukraine, Reuters reports, citing sources in the German defense structures.

According to the agency, the main problems remain weak air defense, a shortage of modern artillery systems and an insufficient number of drones of various classes. Despite a significant increase in the defense budget and announced modernization programs, the real indicators of the army's combat readiness remain critically low.

The situation is causing growing concerns among both the German military and its NATO partners. Since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine in 2022, Germany has been actively discussing the need to strengthen its own defense capabilities. However, as Reuters notes, the results so far leave much to be desired.

Germany's air defense is currently experiencing significant difficulties. According to military experts, the country's air defense systems are not sufficiently developed to counter modern threats. Particular attention is paid to the lack of anti-aircraft systems and early warning systems, which makes Germany vulnerable to potential air attacks.

In addition, the German army is facing an acute shortage of artillery systems and ammunition. According to sources, a significant portion of artillery installations require modernization or repair. This reduces the operational capabilities of German units in case of rapid deployment.

The situation with unmanned aerial vehicles also remains complex. Germany is seriously lagging behind its NATO allies in the development and use of unmanned systems. The Bundeswehr currently has a limited number of reconnaissance and attack drones, which significantly reduces its capabilities for modern combat operations.
