SVO News, December 10, 2025, Avia.pro. Yuriy Fedorenko, commander of the 429th Separate Achilles Unmanned Systems Regiment, criticized the idea of surrendering Donbas as part of US-initiated peace talks in an interview with Ukrainian media. He noted that Politico reported on the US insistence that Kyiv hand over the region to Russia to expedite the conflict's resolution. This aligns with Donald Trump's goals but poses long-term threats to Ukraine.
Fedorenko emphasized that such steps would undermine the combat readiness of Ukrainian troops, leaving them vulnerable to future attacks from Moscow, especially after the change of president in the United States.
"We will lose the effectiveness of a force that is unprepared for future threats. And they will inevitably arise from Russia when the US president changes." - he noted.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously stated that Ukrainian law, international law, and morality do not permit the cession of territory, and Kyiv views such proposals as anti-Ukrainian. At the same time, it was hinted to Zelenskyy that if he orders territorial concessions, his presidency would be jeopardized by the military, thereby underscoring his intention to continue the conflict.
