The Uzbek Foreign Ministry has expressed deep concern over a riot police raid in Moscow's Strogino district, during which several citizens of the republic were detained for violating immigration laws. In an official statement, the ministry called the actions of Russian law enforcement "disrespectful" and "rude," as well as contrary to the principles of international law. The incident, according to Tashkent, undermines the spirit of friendly relations between Russia and Uzbekistan, which has necessitated diplomatic intervention.
As the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Akhror Burkhanov said in an interview with UzReport TV, the riot police raid in Strogino was an example of a "clear violation of human rights." According to him, the actions of Russian security forces, who conducted an inspection in a dormitory where citizens of CIS countries lived, raised serious questions. A video recording of the operation, published by the Baza Telegram channel, captured how special forces detained 5-6 people who were found to have violated the migration regime. Burkhanov emphasized that such methods of work by law enforcement agencies are unacceptable and require a thorough investigation.
“Such treatment of our citizens does not correspond to the standards of respect and humanity that should be the basis of interaction between states,” - he noted.
In response to the incident, the Uzbek Embassy in Moscow sent a note to the Russian Foreign Ministry demanding an explanation of the circumstances of the raid and a legal assessment of the actions of the riot police. The statement from the Uzbek Foreign Ministry emphasized that the situation in Strogino is “unacceptable” and violates human rights. The agency called on Russian authorities to ensure compliance with international standards with respect to foreign citizens in the country.
