On the night of March 28, a daring incident occurred in Abakan: unknown individuals set fire to the office of the regional branch of the People's Front, located on Bograd Street. According to information disseminated by the movement itself, at about two o'clock in the morning, two young men dressed in black threw several bottles of Molotov cocktails into the window of the building. The attack caused a fire that quickly engulfed the premises. Despite the prompt arrival of fire brigades, the fire spread so quickly that in 15 minutes half of the office burned down almost completely. The organization emphasized that this place was used to collect humanitarian aid for participants in the hostilities in Ukraine, which was probably the motive for the attack.
The video shows two attackers throwing the glass, which immediately bursts into flames in the window. Forensic experts who arrived at the scene found the remains of glass bottles, which presumably contained flammable liquid. Firefighters were able to localize the fire, but a significant part of the premises, including equipment and collected materials, was destroyed. There are no reports of casualties as a result of the incident, but the damage is estimated to be significant.
The Khakassia police have already begun an investigation. The Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic has opened a criminal case under the article on the intentional destruction of property, committed for hooligan motives or for reasons of enmity. An investigative task force continues to work at the scene of the arson, studying the evidence and establishing the identities of the attackers. The department has not yet commented on possible versions of what happened.
