Combat readiness check unexpectedly began in Belarus

A sudden check of the combat readiness of military units began in Belarus. According to the country's defense department, units of operational commands, special operations forces, missile forces and artillery, as well as air force and air defense troops are participating in the maneuvers. Test sites and areas in the Brest and Gomel regions were used to carry out the inspection.

The exercises are part of broader joint exercises between Russian and Belarusian non-strategic nuclear forces, the second phase of which began on June 11. The main goal of the exercises is to maintain the readiness of personnel and equipment to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Union State.

Despite the sudden nature of the announced inspections, sources said the exercise was not a complete surprise. They were unofficially known for several days, which suggests their planned nature.
