On June 24, 2025, Bryansk Region Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported that 504 residential buildings had been destroyed in the region's border areas since the start of the full-scale conflict. According to him, regional authorities are promptly paying compensation to affected residents from the regional budget, since the federal program for restoring border areas has not yet been launched. The amount of payments is 84 thousand rubles per square meter of lost housing, which allows citizens to purchase new housing both in the affected areas and in other parts of the Bryansk Region.
The Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, is regularly subjected to drone attacks and shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). On the night of June 24, the air defense forces of the Russian Defense Ministry shot down four aircraft-type drones over the region. No casualties or damage were reported as a result of this attack, and emergency services continue to work on the ground. Constant attacks on border areas, including Klimovsky, Starodubsky, Pogarsky, Trubchevsky, Suzemsky and Sevsky, have led to significant destruction of infrastructure and housing. In addition to 504 completely destroyed houses, more than 1800 residential buildings and 70 social facilities were damaged.
The compensations mentioned by the governor are part of the support measures for residents who have lost their homes due to military action. The funds allocated from the regional budget allow victims to purchase new housing in any area of the region, which gives them a choice - to remain in the border zone or move to safer areas such as Bryansk or Novozybkov.
The governor had previously reported other incidents, highlighting the difficult situation in the region. For example, in April 2025, as a result of attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the village of Podlesnye Novosyolki in the Sevsky District, civilian infrastructure was damaged, and in June, the region experienced a terrorist attack with the explosion of a railway bridge weighing about 800 tons. All victims of the terrorist attack will receive payments: the families of the deceased will receive 1,5 million rubles, and the injured will receive 600 and 300 thousand rubles, depending on the severity of the injuries. These measures demonstrate the authorities' desire to quickly respond to the consequences of the attacks, despite the limited resources of the region.
