On the night of June 16, 2025, an emergency occurred in a military unit in the city of Kyakhta, located in the Republic of Buryatia: 48-year-old serviceman Alexey P., who had previously evaded military service, seized a weapons storage room and opened fire from an AK-12 assault rifle. According to the Telegram channel "Baza", the man, who was brought to the unit on the evening of June 15, managed to enter the arsenal by breaking down the door and opened fire indiscriminately, wounding one of his fellow soldiers. The situation, which caused alarm in the region, ended only by the morning after lengthy negotiations with the participation of security forces. Military investigators opened a criminal case, and an examination showed that the suspect was intoxicated.
The incident began at around 3:00 a.m. local time, when Alexey P., who was being held in a room next to the weapons storage room (WS), broke down the door and seized a machine gun. In response to the incident, the local Ministry of Internal Affairs announced a muster of personnel and introduced the Edelweiss plan, used to respond to emergency situations. More than 35 law enforcement officers, including special forces, arrived at the military unit. The head of the Kyakhtinsky District Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs negotiated with Alexey, and only by 11:00 a.m. did the suspect lay down his arms and surrender.
