Law enforcement agencies in Dagestan have arrested five local residents on suspicion of organizing a terrorist attack against police officers, according to Gayana Gariyeva, press secretary for the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The arrest operation was carried out by specialists from the Center for Combating Extremism and the regional FSB Directorate. According to investigators, the suspects were planning an attack on law enforcement officials.

A criminal case has been opened against the detainees for plotting to assassinate law enforcement officers and illegally manufacturing explosives. Details of the incident have not been released.
