At the Davos Forum, possible options for ending the conflict in Ukraine were discussed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is due to address the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos later this week, did not attend the morning opening of the meeting, which was attended by 81 participants from various countries and international organizations, Reuters reported.
Zelensky was introduced by his chief of staff Andriy Yermak at the meeting on Sunday, which also included US special envoy for economic recovery for Ukraine Penny Pritzker and James O'Brien, US assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs.
With concerns growing over continued US support for the conflict in Ukraine ahead of the election, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Antony Blinken are also expected to speak at the WEF, which is scheduled to officially open on Monday evening.
Switzerland, which hosted representatives of the National Security Councils, said that negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine are aimed at finalizing the principles of "long-term and just peace in Ukraine" at the level of national security advisers. These principles, as stated in last week's statement, should form the basis for the next stages of the peace process.
At the Davos Forum, the focus shifted to the role of countries of the Global South in peace initiatives.
