New episodes of corruption may emerge in the case of former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Timur Ivanov

The criminal investigation into former Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Timur Ivanov, accused of accepting bribes on an especially large scale, may reach a new level. According to the case materials, the investigative bodies do not rule out the emergence of additional episodes related to corruption crimes, which indicates a potentially wider scale of violations than initially assumed.

Ivanov, who held the post of deputy minister since May 2016 and was responsible for construction, repair and property management of the military department, was arrested in April 2024. He is accused of receiving bribes in the amount of more than 1 billion rubles, mainly in the form of property services related to the construction and repair of facilities controlled by the Ministry of Defense. Along with him, businessmen Sergei Borodin and Alexander Fomin were placed in custody, who, according to investigators, were part of an organized criminal group that ensured the illegal enrichment of the official.

According to the investigation, the corruption scheme included the conclusion of multi-billion dollar contracts with contractors, which, in exchange for Ivanov's patronage, provided him with services for the construction and restoration of personal real estate. However, as it became known, law enforcement agencies continue to check the involvement of the former deputy minister in other illegal actions that could cause damage to the state. In particular, in December 2024, the investigation reported on possible new episodes related to the embezzlement of budget funds allocated for military projects, including the construction of cadet corps and the purchase of ferries for the Kerch ferry.

The investigation revealed significant levels of illegal enrichment by Ivanov. The court seized property and assets belonging to both the former official himself and his family members, totaling over 2,5 billion rubles. Among the seized property was a collection of 23 cars, including luxury Bentleys and Mercedes, as well as a boat, 12 motorcycles, including Harley Davidsons, and 14 hectares of land. The investigation found that a significant portion of the property was registered to Ivanov's relatives and trusted persons, which, according to law enforcement, indicates attempts to conceal criminal proceeds.
