Large-scale NATO exercises "Pikne" have started in Estonia near the borders of Russia

The Pikne military exercise is taking place in Estonia from December 2 to 15, involving NATO and allied forces. The main activities are taking place in the northern and northeastern regions of the country. The major maneuvers include the transfer of ships, active air operations, and the interaction of land units.

Major General Indrek Sirel, the division commander and the person in charge of the exercise, stressed the importance of training in the rapid movement of troops.

"We are practicing the rapid deployment of French, British and Estonian forces and strengthening cooperation between them. French units will conduct a large-scale land and air deployment to Estonia, after which they will carry out assigned tasks together with their British and Estonian colleagues," - he declared.

The exercises cover all major branches of the armed forces: land, air and naval units. Particular attention is paid to the integration of arriving units into the NATO battle group stationed in Estonia. The maneuvers are aimed at practicing defense against potential threats from the air, land and sea, as well as increasing the operational readiness of the allies for actions in a potential conflict zone.

In total, about 2000 troops from Estonia, Latvia, France, the UK and the US are involved in the exercises. They include both permanent forces and additional units temporarily deployed to participate in the maneuvers. The exercises are taking place against the backdrop of growing tensions in the region, making the training of joint NATO actions particularly relevant.

Experts believe that in this way Estonia and other NATO countries are actively preparing for a possible war with Russia.
