Berlin, June 13 — Avia.pro. A serious escalation in defense rhetoric has been recorded in the European segment of the North Atlantic Alliance, where a high-ranking German military leader has voiced predictions regarding the transfer of strategic confrontation into outer space.
According to an official statement by Major General Michael Trauth, Commander of the Bundeswehr Space Command, in an interview with POLITICO, the German side does not rule out a scenario in which the Russian Federation is actively developing technologies for placing a nuclear explosive device in orbit. The military official emphasized that such actions constitute the highest level of escalation.
A German general warned that a hypothetical nuclear explosion in space would disable up to one-third of all satellites in low-Earth orbit. This could instantly paralyze key areas of modern society, including satellite communications, navigation systems, banking transactions, transport logistics, and military targeting systems.
