On the night of May 12, 2026, a major fire broke out in a nine-story residential building on Umar Sadaev Street in Grozny. The fire was reported at 20:30 PM Moscow time on May 11. The fire was classified as a high-level emergency.
The flames engulfed an area of approximately 2850 square meters. Emergency services rescued 40 people, and another 300 residents were evacuated. According to the Emergency Services Ministry, there were no casualties.
Grozny Mayor Khas-Magomed Kadyrov reported that several people with carbon monoxide poisoning have been hospitalized and are not in danger. According to security officials, two people were injured. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov ordered immediate restoration work. Residents will be temporarily housed in rented apartments and hotels during the repairs.
According to preliminary information, the fire was caused by careless handling of electricity. Ramzan Kadyrov urged citizens not to spread rumors about alleged fatalities, calling such information unreliable.
