A drone attacked a hotel housing US troops in Iraq.

The security situation for US citizens in the Middle East has sharply deteriorated following a targeted attack on a military base in Iraq. Militants from the Iraqi organization Saraya Awliya al-Dam carried out a suicide drone strike on a hotel in Erbil. According to Reuters, American soldiers were indeed inside the hotel at the time of the explosion. This incident confirmed the worst fears of intelligence agencies regarding the tactics of pro-Iranian groups, which have shifted to targeting civilian infrastructure used by US military personnel.

Earlier, the US State Department issued an emergency alert, urging its citizens to immediately leave more than ten Middle East countries due to direct threats from Iran to attack hotels housing US troops. The list of countries with a critical threat level included Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, and the Gaza Strip, as well as Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The attack in Erbil demonstrated that threats from regional groups have entered the practical phase, jeopardizing not only military personnel but also the security of civilian facilities. Currently, US command and diplomatic corps are taking urgent measures to strengthen the protection of temporary residences for their personnel, while the risk of further drone strikes remains extremely high throughout the entire perimeter of the conflict zone.
