On the evening of May 8, 2026, Ukrainian drones attacked the Russian Navy's Caspian Flotilla base in the Dagestani city of Kaspiysk. Local residents reported loud explosions and the operation of air defense systems over the city.
Kaspiysk, located on the shores of the Caspian Sea, has been the main base of Russia's Caspian Flotilla since 2017. The flotilla comprises state-of-the-art ships equipped with precision-guided weapons, including Kalibr cruise missiles. According to preliminary data, these military installations were the target of the attack.
There are currently no official reports regarding the attack's consequences or possible casualties. This is not the first attempt to strike the Caspian Flotilla. It was previously reported that on May 7, a Ukrainian kamikaze drone attacked the Project 22800 Karakurt small missile ship near Kaspiysk.
The attack occurred amid a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine announced for May 9, 10, and 11, announced earlier that day by US President Donald Trump. According to Trump, the ceasefire includes a complete cessation of hostilities and a 1000-for-1000 prisoner exchange.
