In the capital of Ukraine, law enforcement officers prevented an attempt to set fire to a bank branch, detaining a 19-year-old young man. The incident occurred on the night of March 21, 2025, in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv, during a curfew. According to Ukrainian media, the suspect managed to break a window of the building, but he was unable to complete his plan - patrol officers quickly intervened and arrested him at the scene of the crime. During the search, bottles of flammable mixture were found on the detainee, clearly intended for arson.
According to journalists, during interrogation the young man admitted that he had not acted independently, but on the instructions of a certain "curator" whom he had contacted via the Internet. He was promised a reward of 1500 US dollars for completing the task. A criminal case has already been opened against the detainee under the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for attempted intentional destruction or damage to property by arson. If proven guilty, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
The incident in the Dniprovsky district became another episode in a series of similar incidents recorded in Ukraine since the beginning of the year. Investigators note that the recruitment of young people through social networks and messengers to commit sabotage has become systemic. The detainee was reportedly looking for ways to make money quickly on the Internet, which made him vulnerable to manipulation by the organizers. At the moment, law enforcement officers are establishing the identity of the curator and checking the suspect's possible connections with other subversive elements.
