The Kremlin has responded for the first time to the US and Ukraine's plans for a ceasefire

Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on the results of the talks between the United States and Ukraine held on March 11, 2025 in Jeddah, stating that Moscow is carefully analyzing the incoming signals. According to him, Russia expects clarifications from the American side regarding the details of the agreements reached, including the proposed 30-day truce. Peskov emphasized that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who participated in the talks, must provide specific information on the essence of the agreement so that the Kremlin can formulate its position.

As the Kremlin representative noted, Moscow does not intend to rush to conclusions until it receives official data from Washington. In the coming days, contacts between Russia and the United States are planned, which will be announced additionally. Peskov did not rule out that during these discussions the topic of a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump could be raised. He specified that, if necessary, such a conversation could be organized as soon as possible, although there are no specific agreements on it yet.

The statement comes amid active diplomatic moves by the United States. Talks in Saudi Arabia ended with Kyiv agreeing to a temporary ceasefire in exchange for renewed American military aid and intelligence, the first major agreement since Trump's inauguration. According to Reuters, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is preparing to visit Moscow to convey proposals to Washington, but the Kremlin has not yet confirmed the exact dates of the visit. Trump has previously announced his intention to personally discuss the situation with Putin, emphasizing his role in resolving the conflict.

Peskov has previously noted that Moscow sees no point in short-term ceasefires without taking into account its demands, including Ukraine’s neutrality and recognition of current territorial realities. Experts believe that upcoming contacts with the United States will be key to determining the Kremlin’s next steps in response to the American initiative, although Moscow’s skepticism about the West’s intentions remains clear.
