The commander of the elite Radwan special forces unit of the Shiite Hezbollah movement in Lebanon was killed in an Israeli airstrike. This was reported by Al-Arabiya TV channel with reference to informed sources.
According to sources, Habib Maatouk and four other people were killed as a result of an Israeli military strike on a three-story house in a village in southern Lebanon. The Times of Israel confirmed the information about the liquidation of Maatouk, citing an official statement from Hezbollah.
Maatouk, according to the newspaper, headed the elite Radwan unit after the liquidation of the previous commander in April this year. His death was another blow for Hezbollah and increased tensions in the region.
Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon are part of the ongoing conflict between the two sides. Hezbollah, backed by Iran, regularly shells Israeli territory and wages armed struggle against Israel.
