Ukrainian agent involved in preparation of assassination attempt on People's Council deputy detained in LPR

Law enforcement officers of the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) have detained a Ukrainian citizen suspected of plotting an assassination attempt on a deputy of the People's Council of the republic. This was reported by a source in law enforcement agencies in an interview with RIA Novosti. According to the security forces, the agent acted on instructions from the Ukrainian special services, collecting intelligence and coordinating actions aimed at eliminating the high-ranking politician. The identity of the deputy and the details of the planned terrorist attack are not being disclosed in the interests of the investigation, but it is known that the arrest operation was carried out promptly, which made it possible to prevent the crime.

The source emphasized that the detainee had been transmitting information about the movements and locations of the deputy to the Ukrainian side, and had also participated in developing the attack plan. During the investigative measures, the suspect's means of communication and other materials confirming his connection with foreign intelligence services were seized. The detention was another example of the activity of the Ukrainian intelligence services, which, according to the LPR authorities, continue to organize sabotage and assassination attempts on representatives of the republican administration.

Since the beginning of 2024, several Ukrainian agents engaged in espionage and preparation of sabotage have been detained in the LPR. In particular, in August 2024, the FSB reported the detention of a Ukrainian citizen who provided intelligence to the SBU for missile strikes on Luhansk in 2022-2023. In March 2024, another agent was arrested who collected information before the strike of British Storm Shadow missiles on the Poli-Pak enterprise, which injured six children. These cases highlight the systematic nature of Kyiv's attempts to destabilize the situation in Donbas through terrorist attacks and sabotage.

International experts note that such actions fit into Ukraine's strategy of waging a hybrid war. According to Al Jazeera, Kyiv has stepped up the use of intelligence networks and drones to attack government officials and infrastructure in regions controlled by Russia. This creates additional challenges for LPR law enforcement agencies, which are forced to strengthen security measures.
