In Moscow, a 15-year-old schoolboy is accused of failing to report a crime

A 15-year-old schoolboy has been detained in Moscow on suspicion of failing to report a planned crime. According to sources, the teenager failed to inform law enforcement about his friend's intention to set fire to the United Russia party office in Dolgoprudny. The events that prompted the detention took place more than a year ago. Baza reports on this matter.

The incident began with correspondence between Sergei (name changed) and his 16-year-old friend Vladimir in December 2023. Vladimir, according to investigators, said in a private correspondence that he planned to set fire to the local branch of United Russia and invited Sergei to join. However, Sergei refused to participate, but did not tell anyone about his friend's intentions.

In February 2024, Vladimir carried out his plan and set fire to the party office. After that, he was detained by law enforcement agencies. During the search, his phone was seized, where information about his plans was found in the correspondence, as well as a mention of Sergei.

Almost a year after the arson, on January 20, 2025, Sergei was detained. A criminal case was opened against him under Article 205.6 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("failure to report a crime"). He faces up to one year in prison. At the moment, the schoolboy is under a written undertaking not to leave.

The situation has caused a wide public outcry. Experts and human rights activists are discussing how justified it is to initiate a criminal case in such cases.
