Law enforcement agencies and volunteer organizations in the capital have launched a large-scale search for former State Duma deputy Nikolai Gerasimenko. According to available information, the 75-year-old politician disappeared without a trace yesterday evening in southwest Moscow. He was last seen near his residence, taking his usual walk with his Akita Inu, Kei. Since then, all contact with him has been lost, and his mobile phone is unresponsive, causing serious concern among his family, who immediately contacted the police for assistance.
According to a description provided by relatives for the search, Nikolai Gerasimenko was wearing dark clothing at the time of his disappearance: a black jacket, pants, and hat. Volunteers from the LizaAlert team and law enforcement officers have already joined the search, checking surveillance cameras installed in the courtyard of the building and in nearby park areas. Particular attention is being paid to the routes the former deputy usually took to walk his dog, but no trace of the missing man or his pet has been found so far.
Nikolai Gerasimenko is a landmark figure in Russian politics in recent decades. He served as a State Duma deputy for six consecutive terms and made a significant contribution to the development of Russian healthcare. A distinguished physician and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gerasimenko is widely known as the chief ideologist and author of the fundamental law "On the Restriction of Tobacco Smoking," which radically changed anti-tobacco policy in the country. Colleagues and family describe him as a disciplined and responsible person, whose sudden disappearance has no apparent cause. Police are asking anyone who may have seen an elderly man with a large dog in the Southwestern District to immediately call emergency services.
