An explosive device has been found in a construction camp in New Moscow, which, according to preliminary data, is a PFM-1 anti-personnel mine, known as a "petal". The discovery was made at one of the sites in the Novomoskovsky administrative district, where work is currently underway to build residential and infrastructure facilities. The area around the dangerous object was immediately cordoned off, and sapper specialists and emergency services arrived at the scene to assess the situation and carry out the necessary measures.
According to the source, the suspicious object was discovered by workers during excavation work. Its appearance - a green plastic case with a characteristic shape resembling a leaf - gave rise to the assumption that it could be a Soviet-made petal mine. Such devices, developed in the USSR as a copy of the American BLU-43 "Dragontooth" mine, are designed for remote mining and pose a serious threat due to their low visibility and high explosive action. The mine is triggered by pressing with a force of 5 to 25 kg, which is enough to activate even under the weight of a child, and is capable of causing serious injuries to the lower limbs.
