In exchange for Hungary's release from sanctions against Russian energy resources, Budapest agreed to purchase LNG from the United States.

Hungary will receive a full waiver of US sanctions on imports of Russian oil and gas in exchange for purchasing liquefied natural gas and nuclear fuel from the US, White House sources told Reuters.

The LNG deal is valued at $600 million, Bloomberg reports. Budapest has also committed to purchasing American nuclear fuel for the Paks Nuclear Power Plant.

Hungarian officials told The Guardian that Orbán is seeking a visit from Donald Trump to Budapest to strengthen his position ahead of the parliamentary elections. The White House and Budapest are not commenting on the details.
