On the night of May 10, 2026, a major attack occurred on a police checkpoint in the Fateh Khel district of Bannu, a city in the northwest of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to police, the attack began when a suicide bomber rammed a car bomb into the checkpoint. Following the powerful explosion, a group of armed militants entered the area and opened heavy fire on the law enforcement officers present. The attackers reportedly used not only heavy weapons but also drones.
At least 12 police officers were killed in the attack. According to authorities, 15 officers were on duty at the time of the attack, and another officer remains missing. Three officers survived and were hospitalized. Eyewitnesses reported that five others were injured.
Law enforcement forces sent to the scene as reinforcements were ambushed by militants. The security post itself was severely damaged, and the explosion also damaged several residential buildings.
