Penza News, December 13, 2025, Avia.pro. On Saturday, an accident occurred at Chais station in the Penza region, derailing two locomotives and 23 fuel oil tank cars. Local authorities and railway services reported the incident. According to preliminary reports, human error was the cause of the accident: the driver of one of the locomotives ignored a red light, resulting in a collision and derailment.
The accident resulted in fuel oil spilling over an area of approximately 750 square meters near the embankment. Specialists have already contained the leak, and cleanup operations are currently underway. However, service at Chais station has been completely suspended, causing delays for six passenger trains. These include trains traveling from Chelyabinsk, Ulyanovsk, and Samara to Moscow, as well as a train from St. Petersburg to Samara. Trains are being rerouted via alternative routes, which could add several hours to travel time.
Emergency crews from Russian Railways, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and environmental services are working at the scene to clean up the area and restore the track. There are no reports of injuries yet, but the situation remains under control. Passengers are asked to stay updated on schedules through official Russian Railways channels.
