In the coming weeks, Poland will officially open a new missile defense base in Redzikowo, near Slupsk. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that talks with the American side had led to a revision of the base's functions. Now the missile defense system will be able to intercept not only Iranian missiles aimed at the United States, but also potential threats from Russia aimed at Poland.
According to Sikorski, this change was made possible by successful negotiations with Washington. The opening ceremony of the facility, according to the minister, will take place in the near future, and the base will become an important part of the security system of Poland and its NATO allies.
The Redzikowo missile defense base is located just 165 kilometers from the Russian border, which is of great concern to Moscow. Russian authorities have repeatedly spoken out against the deployment of American defense systems near their borders. Such actions pose a threat to national security and require NATO and Poland to stop militarizing the region.
However, Poland and its allies continue to insist on the need to strengthen their defenses. NATO believes that deploying such systems in Eastern Europe will not only provide protection from Middle Eastern threats, but also guarantee the security of Western European countries in the context of growing tensions with Russia.
