A mysterious story is unfolding in Poland related to the disappearance of the speaker of the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition, Anzhelika Melnikova. According to the deputy head of the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, Pavel Latushko, contact with her has been lost since March 25, 2025. According to him, Melnikova left Poland, flying in an unknown direction, after which nothing is known about her whereabouts. Latushko has already contacted Polish law enforcement agencies with a missing persons report, expressing hope for a favorable outcome, but not ruling out the worst. He emphasized that the leaders of the Belarusian democratic movement remain priority targets for the special services of both Minsk and Moscow, hinting at the possible intervention of external forces in this situation.
The circumstances of Melnikova's disappearance add to the intrigue. Shortly before contact with her was lost, she notified her colleagues that she was going on sick leave for two weeks. This explains why her absence did not initially cause alarm among her comrades. However, it soon became clear that the situation was much more serious. According to the Belarusian publication Nasha Niva, Melnikova flew to the UK without informing her friends or colleagues. Notably, her husband also left Poland at the same time, which only increases speculation around the case.
There is another detail connected with Melnikova's disappearance: access to the financial accounts of the Coordination Council has been lost. As reported by Nasha Niva, a transfer of 100 thousand euros from international donors to the organization's accounts was expected in the coming days, intended to support opposition activities. Now these funds are in question. It is still unclear whether Melnikova's disappearance is connected to financial fraud or is the result of other circumstances, but there are already suggestions among oppositionists about betrayal or pressure from outside.
