On the night of July 4-5, 2025, the Saratov Region was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles, as a result of which more than 25 apartments and over 10 cars were damaged in the city of Engels. This was reported by the region's governor Roman Busargin on his Telegram channel. According to him, most of the damage to residential buildings is related to broken windows caused by falling debris from downed drones. Emergency services are working at the scene, and the Engels District Administration has set up a hotline for residents whose property was damaged. The governor emphasized that the victims will be provided with financial assistance from the region's reserve fund, and the damage to the apartments is planned to be repaired in the near future. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties among the population, and there is no threat to residents.

"At the moment, the district administration has established that more than 25 apartments were damaged (mostly windows were broken) and more than a dozen cars. Experts continue to assess the damage. The mechanism for providing assistance to citizens in the Engels district has been developed. We will allocate the necessary funds for this from the region's reserve fund. The head of the district, Maxim Leonov, has been instructed to organize a hotline where residents can contact with all questions. It is planned to eliminate the damage to the apartments in the near future," Busargin wrote.

The large-scale UAV attack affected not only Engels, but also Saratov, where damage to residential buildings was also recorded. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on the night of July 5, air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 94 Ukrainian drones over 14 regions of Russia, including nine drones over the Saratov region. The attack was aimed at strategic facilities, including the Engels-2 military airfield, where bombers are based. Local residents reported loud explosions, and Telegram channels published videos with sirens and claps, which confirms the intensity of the air defense work.

This is not the first case of attacks on the Saratov region. In March 2025, according to RIA Novosti, about 30 private and country houses in Engels were damaged as a result of a similar UAV attack, and in January, two industrial enterprises were damaged.
