The first unit with shock robots will be formed in the Russian Federation

The Russian Defense Ministry creates the first army unit armed with robotic strike systems. Information about this was shared by the press service of the department.

The first experimental unit that owns the Uran-9 complexes is being formed on the basis of the Ministry of Defense Research Center. Initially, it will work on the development of forms and methods for using such units, then on the basis of the center they will begin to prepare personnel for the use of Uran-9 complexes and other modifications that have not yet entered combat duty in the Russian army.

According to the Chief of the General Staff of the Ground Forces Vasily Tonkoshkurov, the first subunit with strike robots will be formed in the RF Armed Forces, equipped with five Uran-9 robotic complexes consisting of 20 vehicles.

Prior to this, the Uran-9 complexes were used only individually. The Uran-9 complex entered service with the Russian troops in 2016, but in the course of experimental combat operation revealed deficiencies in observation and reconnaissance functions, firepower, mobility, and control. At the end of the modernization of the complex, it passed state tests, which ended in 2020.

Complex "Uran-9" consists of a control panel, four tracked combat vehicles with remote control and transport for their delivery. In terms of armament, there are: an automatic 30-mm cannon 2A72 and a coaxial 7,62 mm machine gun, a Bumblebee jet flamethrower and Armata anti-tank guided missiles. Depending on the tasks assigned, the complex can be additionally armed with MANPADS.
