In Russia, despite the coronavirus pandemic, the draft will not be canceled - Putin signed a decree

The Russian president approved a decree on the beginning of the spring draft in the Armed Forces.

Despite the rather difficult situation with the spread of coronavirus infection in the territory of the Russian Federation, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the beginning of draft in the army on April 1. Compared to last year, the terms of military draft have not changed - it will end on July 15.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the beginning of draft in the army on April 1. The document was published on the Internet portal of legal information on Monday, March 30. The call will end on July 15th. The terms of military draft have not changed compared to last year. The number of people who will join the ranks of the armed forces has not changed - according to the document, from April 1, 135 thousand people will go to serve. March 20, the head of the Ministry of Defense of Russia Sergey Shoigu said that the spring call would not be postponed due to the coronavirus. The minister added that all conscripts will be tested for coronavirus before being sent to duty stations. They will also be quarantined for two weeks after arriving at military units. ”- reports the publication "Lenta.ru."

Experts, in turn, do not exclude that the situation may well change, since today only progress in the incidence of a new type of coronavirus infection is recorded in Russia, however, the rejection of spring conscription according to the principles of other states will mean a serious weakening of the Russian army.

“When it comes to hundreds of thousands of troops, it should be understood that this is 15% of the Russian army, while, despite the pandemic, the country's defense can not be reduced. Subject to due diligence, the situation with the distribution of COVID-19 should not make any major changes to the call. ”, - the expert marks.
